Patterdale in NJ, needs job/home

Recently, I rescued a dog that was going to be “euthanized” on May 11. He is three yrs old, black/dark chocolate with a small white blaze on his chest and his name is Barley. He was said to be a Jack Russell/Lab Mix, however, he turned out to be a Patterdale Terrier(Fell Terrier) who had very little training and more than likely, was taken from his mother too soon as he had not learned all socialization manners as yet and had bitten the postal lady as she was opening Barley’s back yard gate at the same time his owner was letting him out into the fenced in back yard. He has never bitten any one in his family including babies or cats. He does love to chase any small animals though! He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on heartworm preventative and is being fed premium natural dog food. He is living in a kennel at my friends house as I have no place for him and I have a lot of rescue cats! My friends dog kennel is also on her property which is a cat rescue too. Barley has had a dog trainer come to work with him a few times and also now has a pet sitter exercise him almost every day and both of them feel he is not an aggressive dog. They say he just needs a strong pack leader to calmly and firmly guide and train him as to what is and is not acceptable. He is a sweet, funny dog and loves to be petted and belly rubbed! He once stayed under a deck for twelve hours after chasing a squirrel under it. He is smart and is learning quickly. If I did not have health problems or rescue cats, I would keep him in a heartbeat. He would love to play with other dogs but always wants to be alpha, so he needs to be supervised until he learns to play nicely with others. He has done very well with other dogs in this way. He should not go to a home with small children or small animals other than dogs until he is trained by his new person to do as he is told by them. Critter Control would be a great job for Barley or something similar. Please contact me if you have any advice for me or if you are interested in learning more about him. Penny the Patterdale

I have had my Patterdale since 1999. Penny is from the Nuttall bloodline which means she is small (12-15lbs). Black with smooth coat. She has been a great dog, even at 14 years old, when she hears me open the drawer and get my truck keys she is ready to roll. Her personal record for squirrels is 7 caught in attics in one day. She just smoked a rat recently. She has been great on rat jobs locating entry points or where the rat is hiding behind the wall. She is a great help locating and removing young raccoons out of really lousy places. If you want a dedicated helper and marketing machine get yourself a well trained P-dale. I just saw a customer that I had in 1999 the other day, have not seen her in 10 years. She did not know my name but recognized me and asked if “Penny” was still alive and working. Penny caught a chipmonk in her kitchen, she’s never forgotten my dog. I’ve lost track of how many times the phone rings and the caller asks for Penny and that guy who drives her around to come to their house. It has been a great partnership that continues to this day. Could you imagine coming home from work to find this tiny creature napping on your couch with your dog? Guess who came home for dinner? It followed this beagle home, right through the doggy door. This happened in Maryland recently. The owner came home to find the visitor had made himself right at home….This hit the 6 o’clock news big time.

Tag was a handsome miniature long-haired dachshund. At the age of ten, Tag detected a fire in the house. While his companion dog ran upstairs to hide, Tag ran to his 20 year old family member who was sleeping while he was home from college. Tag did not stop barking and scratching on the door until his loved one awoke and opened the door. Tag saved his family member’s life and all escaped safely from a serious house fire that caused major damage. My tribute to Tag - a hero who lived a good life until he was 16. I miss you.

my dog zaya

my dog zaya is 3 and she is a golden retriver. One time during a hurricane it flooded are dock and my dog zaya went on are diveing board that was connected to the dock and she went on the diveing board when i wasnt watching zaya fell off the diving board and there was a huge splash! zaya wont do that again.

My dog snowball is mix between a golden lab and a jack russel. When she was a puppy we thought she was black. Then we gave her a bath. She was straight white. Snowball is such a bad dog sometimes. Like the time when she climbed up on top of our counter (note that she weighs 90 pounds) and ate every thing out of the cabinet. Or the other day when she ate a bag of instant mashed potatoes. But I still love her.
